Grow Your Practice Smart Telehealth Marketing Strategies

Despite being around for years, telehealth is still a fairly new concept. The COVID pandemic contributed greatly to its widespread use and popularity enabling doctors and patients to meet while maintaining social distance. Today the use of telehealth medicine is much more mainstream in healthcare.

According to JDPower.com, up to 94 percent of patients using telehealth said they would do so again. Other surveys found that up to 60 percent of patients prefer telehealth visits to in person visits. With that in mind, marketing this increasingly popular health care trend is integral to effectively market and grow your business while benefiting your new and existing patients.

Easy access

When it comes to remote health visits, telehealth has the unique benefits of offering patients convenience, the ability to schedule on their time, to get care in the comfort of their home without commute/drive time, to avoid long waits and maintain privacy – especially with certain conditions that are still stigmatized. So it makes sense that healthcare practices would employ whatever strategies they need to attract more telehealth patients to their practice.

“Attracting more telehealth patients requires a smart mix of digital marketing, trust-building, and patient education,” said Julie Perkins, Director of Digital Strategy for AMNY Health Marketing.

Effective strategies to connect more telehealth patients to your practice include:

Engage with content. “Create content around telehealth,” Perkins said. Be sure to let your patients know how telehealth benefits them with fast, convenient access and simple sign-up process with step-by-step instructions and contact information regarding their virtual visit.

Educate. Inform your patients on how telehealth works. “Using FAQs on your website and blog posts to help educate patients on how it works and what to expect with a telehealth visit makes the entire process easier to navigate and reassures them that they’ll get the quality of care they’re looking for,” said Perkins.

Go Digital. “Utilize paid digital ads like paid search bidding on keywords such “find online doctor” or “virtual dr visit,’” Perkins said.

Advertise. Use paid ads to promote your telehealth programs and create widespread awareness. “Target display or social ads to demographics of people most likely to use telehealth, such as parents, busy professionals, rural populations,” Perkins said.

Keep it simple. It’s also important to make scheduling appointments easy and accessible to patients seeking care. Be sure to include mobile compatibility too. Optimizing user experience with a streamlined process is a key component to converting patients to telehealth. Make it easy for a user who sees your ad to book an appointment – so that one click from the ad takes them to a place they can book an appointment, fill out prescreening where necessary and forms. Once they’re booked, be sure patients can access date and time of appointment; add to calendar; contact info for questions; consent forms; instructions on accessing their telehealth appointment, etc.
